2015 Lafourche Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Year - Tommy Mayet

By: James Callahan

Tommy Mayet has been an integral part of our organization over the years.  In October of 1978, at the age of 22, he began his career at Danos as an Assistant Personnel Manager. Our office at the time was located on the bayou side across from the Balcony in Larose. Danos had a total of 12 staff personnel including Hank and Al Danos and approximately 150 field personnel at the time.

For the last 38 years, Tommy has served us in various capacities including Personnel Manager, General Manager of Galveston, TX operations, General Manager Larose operations, International Business Development Manager, Manager of Domestic and International Marine Operations, and since 2000, has served as our Risk and Commercial Insurance Manager.

Through his various positions at Danos, Tommy has always been an example to others.  Even though he has been out of operational positions for several years, he continues to share his business savvy and mentor many others within the operation’s organization.

Under Tommy’s leadership we won a national award in 2014 for our risk management program, and in the past year, Tommy has managed to continue to improve our program.  These improvements have led to substantial cost reductions and better servicing from our risk management partners.

Tommy Mayet is a former employee of the year at Danos who has been implementing his succession (aka retirement) plan over the past year.  Tommy is committed to developing the next generation of Risk Management at Danos.

In doing so, Tommy has been unselfishly living our purpose which includes developing great people.  He has consistently performed at the highest levels of effectiveness throughout his career and in his final year he continues to perform at the highest of levels.
