4WARD: Big Picture

By: Eric Danos

Seldom does life happen just the way we plan it. Hurricane Harvey is proof. We do not yet know the extent of the damage Houston has sustained, only that it is significant. The impact of Harvey extends outward from Houston into southern Texas and to the central coast of Louisiana. We have employees throughout this area who have been affected and many more friends and customers who are suffering. As I have watched this over the last few days I have gone through a range of emotions. I am very saddened to see the tremendous devastation. It is heartbreaking to see families who have lost everything. Some of them do not have a place to turn for help. At the same time I am encouraged because so many people have taken it upon themselves to help in whatever way they can. The Cajun Navy epitomizes this do-right attitude for our neighbors, many of whom are strangers to us.

Here at Danos we are continuing the process of reaching out to employees to determine how many have been impacted and what we can do to help. This is a difficult time for many of our family members. Please see this link for contact information for agencies that are providing assistance on the ground and for one way you can help those who have been impacted. We hope to provide more opportunities for those of us who want to help as we understand better where we can be of assistance.

Within our business it has been not an up and down year, but rather a down then up year. The first half of 2017 continued the low activity levels we carried over from last year. On the other hand we expected the second half of the year to be substantially better. So far it is living up to expectations. What is even more exciting than higher activity is strong positive feedback we have gotten on some of our projects. For the last few years we have worked hard to invest in building better systems and improving our competencies to be ready to set the standard for operational excellence. It makes me proud to see this hard work paying off in work we are doing with Williams, HESS, Shell and others. Not only are we busy in a time when many others aren’t, we are receiving strong positive feedback from our customers. We are partnering with them in meaningful ways on significant projects.

Keep our Purpose at the forefront of the work you are doing. Together we are solving big challenges.
