4WARD: Driving Development

By: Stacey Gisclair

Earlier in the year, a survey was deployed which sought out opinions from employees on how Danos is doing in developing team members, so we can determine if our efforts going forward are making effective improvements. The survey results, which were generally positive, are being taken into account as we shape the long-term Employee Development Strategy. The responses provided are leading us to focus employee development in 2018 in ways that solve customer challenges, leverage existing programs, and identify improvement areas.

The survey solicited feedback in three general areas, and below is a summary of the responses.

  1. Employees were asked to provide examples of development opportunities experienced at Danos.
Common responses included existing programs such as Safety Focus Forums and Lunch & Learns. There were also employees who indicated they were developed through on-the-job experiences by working on different projects or with different groups. Responses included development opportunities to earn certifications and to participate in job specific technical training.
  2. Employees were asked what of tools or support that Danos can provide to help better develop teams.
A wide variety of answers were provided ranging from offering more internal, on-the-job programs to building a Danos training center. Some respondents suggested additional in-house programs to include leadership training and also the formalization of career paths.
  3. Employees were asked for suggestions on how to create a stronger Learning Culture.
Responses were around the need for improved communications, as well as more hands-on and cross training opportunities. There were also suggestions to use the safety culture, both as a model for employee development and as an opportunity to coordinate more development opportunities within existing safety practices and programs.

Once again, thank you to all who participated in the survey. Through our collective efforts, we will continue to align the Danos Learning Culture with the stated company Purpose of “Honor God. Develop great people to solve big challenges for our customers and communities.”
