Acid Plant Project

By: Keli Dantin

Danos’ I&E team recently completed the install and testing of an acid plant for a customer in Port Fourchon, Louisiana. Classified as a Class I, Division 2 area, the project consisted of ground grids; equipment grounds; electrical distribution; automatic transfer switch installation; Motor Control Center (MCC) building and switch gear; electric pumps and valve actuators; receptacles; loading arms; conduit and cable tray installations; as well as area and perimeter lighting. The team was also tasked with the development and implementation of the controls system on this project.

Danos created the PLC (Programmable Logic Controller) and HMI (Human Machine Interface) programs, installed all control wiring and provided associated drawing packages. After completing testing, we turned the plant over to the customer and it is now in operation.

This is just one of many large-scale projects lead by I&E Project Manager Paul Pellegrin. A graduate of Terrebonne Career & Technical High School, Paul got his start in the field, first as an electrical technician and then as an offshore measurement technician for Shell Pipeline. Today, he has over 15 years of industry experience and is managing multi-million dollar projects using the knowledge and expertise he gained in the field. He is a prime example of living our purpose of developing great people to solve big challenges for our customers and communities.

Time-lapse video

This 12’ x 8’ MCC building spent several weeks at the Danos I&E shop in Houma, Louisiana, where our team outfitted it with all of the necessary electrical equipment. Here is a time-lapse video of our team safely and efficiently loading the final product, now weighing a whopping 18,000 lbs., on to a flatbed truck to be shipped and later installed on location.
