Danos and Shell Host Summer Internship in Pennsylvania

By: Samantha Magee

Early this year, Shell approached Danos’ Pennsylvania team with the idea of supporting a summer internship program for high school students. Both Shell and Danos viewed this as a great opportunity to garner interest and experience in the oil and gas industry among young people. With a 48-year working relationship between Danos and Shell, partnering for the intern program seemed like a no-brainer.

Danos Account Manager Shawn Wheeler and Shell superintendent Hondo Blakely made several visits to the Wellsboro Area High School to recruit and interview students for the internship program. As a result, four students (pictured left to right) – Taylor Wheeler (Shawn's son), Ethan Blakely, Daniel Mitchell and Brennan Catherman – were selected to participate in the program.

The interns are shadowing lease operators and maintenance operators to gain hands-on field experience and are assisting with various industry-specific projects including road maintenance, brush clearing, beautification and weed whacking to name a few. The interns, who are recent graduates or entering their senior year, began work on June 17, and the six-week program will wrap up on August 19.
