Certified Professional in Supply Management

Institute for Supply Management

The Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) designation certifies that I have key knowledge and skills in areas such as finance, supplier relationship management, organization global strategy and risk compliance, and that I am a leader in the supply chain management profession. This program is supported by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM).

Why is this certification important to Danos and you?

With this certification, I have put myself in position to support many of the company’s goals and values by being proactive in my approach as opposed to reactive. It helps promote our vision of “being the standard for operational excellence and customer service by which every company in our industry is measured,” not only in my department, but for all of the different internal and external customers that I service.

The duration of the process depends on the individual, but to earn the certification, you must pass three examinations within a four-year period and have 3 years of on-the-job supply chain experience. My goal was to pass 1 test per quarter and obtain my certification by the end of 2014. The certification remains valid for 3 years.

As a member of ISM, I attend meetings and speaking events as part of a continuing education program. Members are required to accrue 60 continuing education hours (CEH) over a three-year period. The CEHs can be earned by taking college courses, contributing to the profession, teaching or taking CEHs, and ISM examinations.
