Keep Your Guard Up - Danos Against COVID-19

By: Issac Dantin

Many of you can probably remember when you were younger lacing up those boxing gloves for the first time. Your dad or older brother gave you the basics on how to throw a jab. They taught you what a cross was and how to properly execute the famous uppercut. As you danced around a makeshift ring in your backyard, or climbed on a mattress to box with your cousins or siblings, you were reminded of that golden rule - keep your guard up! As soon as you lowered your guard, you could bet a glove was soon to make direct contact with your face. While that does bring back good memories, it ties in very well to where we are in terms of this world pandemic. We need to keep our guard up!

In recent weeks we transitioned into phase two or what we will call “Round Two”. We did extremely well at being proactive and taking on the challenges we faced in these unprecedented times; however, it seems that in some areas and in some communities, our arms got tired. We started looking at the distractions around us and let our guard down. We are witnessing increasing positive cases in our industry and within our communities. We acknowledge that testing is more frequent, but that has also become a distraction, giving many a false sense of security.

We need to all refocus and control what is inside our ring. How do we do that? Use the contents of this poster as a starting point. Print it out, share it with your co-workers and customers and help spread the message with passion and energy - We need to go the distance!

I’ll end with my favorite movie of all time… Rocky! Whether it was Rocky I, II, III, IV or V, every movie was filled with adversity and a huge challenge and opponent. But boy, when the Eye of the Tiger song comes on… I’m ready to shadow box in my living room! We can tell that something is about to change and victory is imminent. We need to do all we can to win at this. It starts with you. “One step at a time, one punch at a time, one round at a time!” – Balboa
