Automation Team Solves BIG Challenge

By: Brandon Barrilleaux

Danos recently won a bid to upgrade a programmable logic controller (PLC) system that automates oil and gas valves and pumps on an offshore transmission platform.

What does this mean? Danos' automation team stepped up and successfully designed and factory acceptance tested (FAT) a 12 processor and a 36 input/output (IO) rack control system that will be installed on the platform in the Gulf of Mexico. This system consists of four redundant processor chassis and eight stand alones, and it will connect over ethernet and fiber cabling for communication throughout the facility.

This new system will be monitored and controlled over a Wonderware Human Machine Interface (HMI) platform, running on Dell servers with over 16 terabytes (TB) of historical data logging. The HMI design consists of nine Dell workstations and seven touch panels.

Great job to the Danos automation team for solving this BIG challenge for our customer.
