Starr Ordoyne with Quality Cellular Consulting has been a Danos mobile partner for the past ten years and is living Danos’ values, particularly when it comes to safety. After seeing last week’s Pipeline article about water safety, Starr shared the below message in order to increase awareness of water safety and help saves lives.

I am a volunteer with Children’s Water Safety Awareness. This organization gives out FREE swimming lessons and CPR classes, regardless of income. This group is just trying to save lives.

Children’s Water Safety Awareness is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Houma, La, that promotes water safety to all in our area and surrounding parishes and provides support to those who have lost a loved one to a drowning incident. We were started by families who have lost children to drowning incidents, all at a very young age. We are also a campaign safety leader for Pool Safely , a national public education campaign that works with partners around the country to reduce child drowning and entrapment in swimming pools and spas.

In 2017-2020, we handed out over 900 swimming certificates to local children in which over 400 were actually used for free swimming lessons at one of our 10 swimming facilities in Terrebonne and Lafourche Parish. Each child was able to receive professional swimming lessons free of charge. We handed out over 100 CPR certificates, 50 of which were actually used.

We want to continue our swimming lessons initiative and are expanding our efforts to offering CPR lessons to adults free of charge at Bayouland YMCA in Houma. We also have a life jacket trade up program. From 2018-2020 we have handed out over 500 Coast Guard approved life jackets, ranging from size infant to 2XXL.
