Gunflint - The Perfect Fit

26-May-2016

The first major fabrication job was successfully loaded-out from the Amelia facility on May 11, 2016. Danos had been involved for almost 2 years working closely with Williams on the new piping and production deck extension for the deep-water Gulfstar platform.

The project came with many challenges including working alongside 3 customers (Williams, Hess, and Noble) who all had a stake in the Gunflint project. Williams was managing the project to be executed on a Hess operated facility, tying in several new wells for Noble Energy.

In addition, delays and revisions to engineering drawings created additional challenges for the Amelia team to overcome. In the end the team met or exceeded all of the required fabrication delivery dates and the new deck extension aligned perfectly offshore.

A few of the project highlights:
  • Project achieved over 110,000 man-hours without a recordable safety incident

  • Fabrication of 550 pipe spools, including over 100 installed on the new deck extension

  • Successful load out of 165 MT fully-integrated production deck extension

  • Involved multiple Danos divisions: Fabrication, Project Management, I&E, Scaffolding, Construction, and Coatings

  • Danos recognized by Williams for achieving “Quad Zero” – 0 recordables, 0 lost time safety incidents, 0 lost work days, and 0 motor vehicle accidents

  • Handling and preservation of customer furnished process equipment: compressor, vapor recovery unit, bulk oil treater, and scrubbers

The new deck extension aligned perfectly offshore and Danos received recognition from Williams Project Manager for the quality of fabrication.

Williams leadership had this to say:

“From the very start of this project the safety team at Danos has worked hand in hand with Williams construction safety to provide the necessary safety resources and guidance for successful completion of this work.”

-Williams EHS

“Setting final deck lift at this time. Production deck fit perfect, hats off to Danos crew.”

-Williams Project Manager
