Lunch & Learn on Danos Culture

By: Samantha Magee

On Tuesday, January 21, Vice President of Human Resources Stacey Gisclair presented a Lunch and Learn on Danos Culture. With over 120 employees tuned in, Stacey walked us through the journey of transforming our organizational culture and what goals we still have to work toward.

When Danos’ third-generation owners came to work in the business, they recognized that culture is nothing more than how we work together as individuals to accomplish goals. They wanted to establish a reason or purpose for the work they would do for the organization, one that was deeper than increasing shareholder value. This belief and thought process led them to create a purpose statement that was personal, genuine and authentic to them. After sharing it with the organization, leadership felt it represented why so many chose to be a part of Danos. Thus, the purpose “Honor God. Develop great people to solve big challenges for our customers and communities,” was adopted for the entire organization.

To supplement the company purpose, management formed five core values to support this purpose and further drive how the company does business. The Danos values are integrity, safety, service, improvement and respect. These values are truly drivers in every-day decisions at Danos. More than simply establishing these, management strives to lead these values in a way that people will be willing to follow.

While evaluating the purpose and values, leadership wanted to set the bar higher in a way that spoke to the organization’s competitive nature and drive to succeed. They recognized that there are a set of behaviors by which every person conducts themselves. Thus, they established high-performance culture traits that each employee should model in order to ensure everyone is working toward a common goal. Danos promotes employees who demonstrate six high-performance culture traits: open to change, participates in coaching, passionate about winning, bias to action, empowers teamwork, and willing to challenge and debate. The company recognizes that when the right people are in the organization, the envisioned culture will thrive.

Thank you to all who joined for the Lunch & Learn!
